Linda Nazareth is an economist, author and television broadcaster. An expert on demographic and social change, she knows that small trends can cause big shifts – and she knows how to stay ahead of them.
Linda’s book The Leisure Economy is to be published by John Wiley & Sons in the U.S. and Canada in September 2007 and details what will be a sea change for the North American economy. For the past three decades, we have been steadily creating an extreme ‘time-crunch economy’ that has affected jobs, portfolios, businesses and lives. But the ‘time-crunch economy’ is turning into ‘the leisure economy’ and it will mean wrenching adjustments for our lives and institutions. Everyone from consumers, investors, businesses, and policy-makers will need to understand the changes afoot.
Since 1999, Linda has been the in-house economist for Business News Network (BNN), Canada’s only all-business television network, and her broad knowledge base is reflected in the depth with which she covers the issues of the day on on-air. She also writes widely on the economy and business, and as a commentator has been quoted everywhere from the The Wall Street Journal through to Wired magazine.
Prior to joining BNN, Linda was a Senior Economist with CIBC. There she spent ten years honing her analytic skills and becoming a sought-after speaker and media commentator. Earlier in her career she was an economist with the federal government where she specialized in demographic and labour market forecasting.
In 2001, Linda Nazareth’s first book, The Ever After Effect: Waking Up From the “Boom” Years was published by Winding Stair press. A look at the unprecedented economic boom of the 1990s and its aftermath, it was called “the first important book on the 1990s stock market boom” and “one of best books of the year on the Canadian economy”.
Linda holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Master of Arts in Economics, both from the University of Toronto. She is a frequent speaker to business groups, translating economic forecasts into information that can be used for their planning purposes.
